The Waterfront

The town could be quite busy and loud along main street, but there are little hidden sidewalks and paths that lead away from it towards the waterfront. Some of these paths lead to restaurants, some to pubs, and some to not much.

In the upper half of this picture, there is a pier extending into the water from a wood and palm tree building. This is Senor Coco's, one of the local bars. One of the nice things about Utila was nighttime, when you could go to a bar on a pier, order a drink, go sit out by the water, listen to cool music and watch the moon and stars, all while wearing shorts and t-shirt. Stellar.

The larger Utila Princess. We never got a chance to ride on this ferry, but we didn't miss much. Behind the boat, you can make out the faint outline of the mountains on the mainland. On a clear day, they made for a nice backdrop across the water.

The Utila Princess docking just before sunset. The blue and white, rusty boat on the left is used to for hauling freight to the island such as building supplies, vehicles, and anything too large to fit on the passenger ferry.

Boats and buildings along the shore of the calm bay where the town was.

A nice house and inn set on the waterfront.

I think that this boat was one of the water taxis.

Flora

There wasn't a really weird variety of plants on the island, but I got a kick out of the banana trees. Pretty flowers and palm trees are also good for giving a place that "tropical" feel.
