Inside the Coral Castle

The bungalow is a single room home with a nice open living area and kitchen (not that we did much cooking). We made ourselves right at home and threw our crap everywhere.

Looking out my back door...

The best part was the Murphy bed. Notice it tucked up into the wall behind Jenny.

Time for bed!

Yes, those sheets were enough to keep us warm.

Don't forget to lather up the pasty northern winter skin.

Home Sweet Home

The red arrow below points to the "Coral Bungalow" on the shores of a wavy bay on the east side of Utila. It was our home base and refuge for 2 weeks and we immensely enjoyed it. To get to and from town, we had to bike for 10 minutes on the dirt road that you see snaking around the upper left hand corner of the photo. You can see the first buildings of town in the upper right. This is also the only photo I'll post that wasn't taken by Jenny or me.

Such a warm and welcoming sign. Though it was true -- the trade winds almost always blew from the east onto shore. It meant that we didn't have any bugs hanging around and always had a breeze to keep us comfortable. From the moment we arrived, we wore shorts and sandals, and never needed long pants or a sweater.

The Coral Bungalow. The lady who owns it lives just behind it across the street with her two yappy little dogs -- Teddie and Tootsie (one is white, the other black). She is actually selling this oceanfront house and it could be all yours for $270,000.

We made excellent use of the gazebo, too.

A white sand beach with coral heads scattered about doesn't hurt either (the gazebo is in the background).
